Wayeb 2026

CELEBRATE THE MAYAN NEW YEAR

Retreat Dates: February 12th – 19th 2026

Location: Lake Atitlan – Guatemala (San Juan La Laguna)

Mayan spirituality, preserved for the last 500 years, is celebrated through fire ceremonies and prayers at various sacred altars located in the mountains.

Those who lead this sacred connection are known as guardians of time, or Ajquibab, in the Mayan language. For them, time is of unity, solidarity, and gratitude for life, essential for harmony and balance, grounded in Mother Earth.

This pilgrimage will be led by Nana Miriam Navichoc (Nana Mimi), a native woman from San Juan La Laguna on Lake Atitlán, of the Tz’utujil Mayan lineage. Nana Mimi grew up receiving, learning, and teaching the ancestral knowledge and traditions of her family.

THE INTENTION

On this Wayeb Pilgrimage, we will visit sacred altars in the mountains to offer gifts to the cosmic guardians, giving thanks for life, projects, and work. We will learn to invoke the energies of the mountains and the four elements through offerings of sacred fires, imbued with the energy of each Nahual (spirit guide) of the day, to establish balance and a harmonious relationship with Mother Earth and sacred life.
Each offering of gratitude will take us on a profound journey to connect with our spirituality and establish inner balance.
A Mayan ceremony is an offering to life, the four elements, and animals. It uses spiritually significant materials such as copal, incense, sacred herbs, pine resin, unrefined cane sugar, cinnamon, honey, flowers, tobacco, and candles of various colors.
During this pilgrimage, we will celebrate the month of Wayeb in the Mayan calendar, a time outside of time, consisting of five days.
Days of reflection, meditation. On our last day we will welcome the Mayan New Year & its new energy carrier.

What is a Nahual?
In the Mayan worldview, nahuales are protective spirits acquired at birth that watch over people’s lives. They are symbols of energy, spirit, or everyday strength.

The Nahual I’X is the Jaguar and represents Mother Earth, Woman, the Sacred Altars of the mountains, and magic.

What is a Carrier?
A Carrier is the nahual whose energy guides the meaning of the entire year. This new year, the Carrier Kej will connect us with physical strength, balance, and sustainability in life.

If you feel the call to deepen your spiritual journey, this pilgrimage is for you!

It will be an extraordinary experience where, in addition to connecting on a spiritual level, you will also learn about Mayan culture, its traditions, its gastronomy, and the connection with the Tz’utujil community.
